Drivers and residents in DeLand should be prepared for significant changes at the intersection of State Road 44 and Kepler Road as a major construction project gets underway. Beginning Thursday, November 20th, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin converting this busy intersection into a modern roundabout aimed at improving both traffic flow and safety.

What to Expect:

- Initial construction will begin with a single-lane roundabout, allowing drivers to adjust to the new traffic pattern.
- Once complete, the intersection will feature a two-lane roundabout with a concrete apron, designed to accommodate large trucks traveling to and from I-4.
- Three of the four turns will include bypass lanes to help reduce congestion for drivers not needing the full roundabout.

Traffic Impact:

- During construction, motorists are advised to expect delays, especially during overnight hours.
- FDOT recommends considering alternate routes to avoid possible congestion while crews work on the intersection.

Why a Roundabout?

According to FDOT and national traffic safety studies, roundabouts can decrease traffic incidents at intersections by up to 82%. These improvements make the roads safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

Pedestrian Safety Enhancements:

The new roundabout design includes features aimed at protecting pedestrians. Flashing beacons will be installed to increase crosswalk visibility and encourage drivers to yield.

Project Timeline:

- The roundabout's initial phase opens to traffic Thursday, November 20th.
- Full construction is expected to conclude in early 2026.
- Motorists and residents are encouraged to stay updated as schedules can shift due to weather or construction progress.

“My sister and i were in the market for an investment property in West Volusia. I have purchased a number of properties from numerous agents. They all were nice and competent, but Allen was very accommodating with his time and efforts. We called him too many times and changed our ‘wish list’ half a dozen times. He never became impatient. If he didn’t have an answer, he would reach out to necessary parties to get it immediately. I’ve never written a review for an agent, but for Allen, I made an exception. He is fun, personable, professional, and informed.”
